Real Madrid is reportedly increasing its interest in Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold following a serious injury to Dani Carvajal. The Spanish defender suffered a significant knee injury during a 2-0 win against Villarreal, which prevented him from finishing the match.
Medical assessments have confirmed that Carvajal has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, external collateral ligament, and popliteus tendon in his right leg. This means he will be out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, creating a notable gap in the squad for the European champions.
With Carvajal sidelined, manager Carlo Ancelotti is left with only Lucas Vazquez as his primary right-back option. While there are some alternatives within the Castilla team, Real Madrid may look to the January transfer window for additional defensive support.
According to Marca, Real Madrid may speed up their plans to acquire Alexander-Arnold, who was initially targeted for a summer move when he might be available on a free transfer due to his expiring contract.
However, Carvajal’s injury could lead the club to make an earlier January offer for the talented full-back.
Despite being in the last year of his contract, Alexander-Arnold is a vital player for Liverpool, having started nine of the team’s ten competitive matches this season, including all seven in the Premier League. It’s unlikely that Liverpool will agree to sell their first-choice right-back mid-season, given his importance to the team.
