Pep Guardiola considering signing Barcelona star to replace Rodri, and negotiating with Laporta

Pep Guardiola is in search of a dependable replacement for Rodri, who will be sidelined for the entire season due to a serious injury. This situation has left Manchester City’s fans and management frustrated, given Rodri’s significance to the team.

The City coach has pinpointed several key players to bolster the midfield, with Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich among the options. Recently, however, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong has emerged as a top candidate.

According to the Spanish newspaper “El Nacional,” De Jong, who joined Barcelona in 2019, has become an integral part of the team, noted for his game distribution and tactical awareness, making him one of the most effective midfielders globally.

De Jong’s appeal for Guardiola lies in his compatibility with Manchester City’s possession-oriented style, which the coach values highly. Guardiola has long admired technically skilled players with a comprehensive vision, like De Jong.

Meanwhile, Barcelona is facing financial challenges, prompting club president Joan Laporta to consider selling De Jong in January if an attractive offer arises.

The report suggests that De Jong’s high salary, one of the largest at Barcelona, could motivate the club to offload him, potentially freeing up funds for future acquisitions.

With the pressing need for a Rodri replacement, Guardiola might expedite negotiations. De Jong has previously been linked to Manchester City, and the current circumstances could make his transfer more likely.

Although the winter transfer window is still months away, it’s evident that Frenkie de Jong is on Guardiola’s radar. If discussions advance and a satisfactory offer is made, the talented Dutch midfielder could join Manchester City in January.
