Despite the two games, only the Sevilla match will be attended by fans, while the Las Palmas game will be held behind closed doors, making for an intriguing day of football against these La Liga teams.
According to Slot, the plan is to give as many players as possible playing time before next week’s season opener against Ipswich. The ECHO reports that a 26-man squad trained on Friday.
Given this strategy, most players are expected to get at least 45 minutes in each of the two matches. However, it’s unlikely that players who participate in the first game will also feature in the second.
Considering the quality of the opponents, it is anticipated that Liverpool’s stronger squad will face Sevilla, who had a disappointing 14th-place finish in La Liga last season. Sevilla, known for their prowess in the Europa League, have Spanish winger Suso, a former Liverpool player.
Las Palmas, who ended last season just one point and two places below Sevilla, will aim to make an impact at Anfield. Interestingly, they have recently acquired former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj from Sevilla, who will be eager to make a mark against Liverpool.
