Federico Chiesa left Liverpool’s training session early on Friday after Arne Slot indicated that the Italian forward might not play at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Liverpool fans grew concerned when Chiesa exited his first training session early, especially since he did not join the attacking drills with Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo.
Chiesa, who recently transferred from Juventus for a potential $16 million, had been sidelined by new Juventus manager Thiago Motta. Liverpool acquired him at a reduced price due to his contract’s final year.
The Italian winger has struggled with injuries recently, impacting his once dynamic playing style.
Despite the worries, Chiesa appeared to reassure fans with a thumbs-up as he left the field, suggesting no serious injury.
Arne Slot likely planned Chiesa’s early departure, with the forward’s training involvement expected to gradually increase.
Slot confirmed in his press conference that Chiesa is unlikely to be part of the squad for Sunday’s match.
“He’ll train with us today, but it’s more probable that he won’t be in the squad than that he will,” Slot said. “We might need him if injuries arise in the next two days, but I don’t anticipate it.”
Curtis Jones will definitely miss the game against Manchester United. Slot confirmed that besides Jones, the rest of the squad will train as usual.
