Bologna manager Vincenzo Italiano shared his thoughts on the Anfield atmosphere following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League.
He expressed his admiration for the intensity of the crowd during the match, where goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah secured Liverpool’s victory in their first home game of the competition since February 2023.
Having qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 1964, Bologna presented a tough challenge. Despite their opponents’ strong form, Bologna held their ground in the early stages.
Italiano noted that both he and his players were overwhelmed by the atmosphere at Anfield, particularly before Mac Allister scored in the 11th minute.
“Playing in a stadium like this sends shivers down your spine,” Italiano remarked during the post-match press conference. He acknowledged that the home support boosted Liverpool’s performance, making it challenging for his team at the start.
He emphasized the need for his team to learn from the experience, stating they would review positive moments from the match to reinforce the style of play they want to maintain throughout the season.
On the other hand, Liverpool manager Arne Slot was pleased to celebrate his first Champions League match at Anfield with a win. He described the match as a tough challenge, acknowledging the quality of teams in the competition and highlighting Bologna’s capabilities.
He also mentioned the importance of a clean sheet and noted some impressive individual performances, reflecting positively on the overall outcome.
