The Liverpool star certainly had the last laugh after defeating Manchester United. Fans noticed Trent Alexander-Arnold’s interaction with Manchester United supporters on Sunday, which prompted Mohamed Salah to step in.
On Sunday (September 1), Manchester United experienced another crushing defeat at the hands of Liverpool, with Arne Slot’s team winning 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Luis Diaz scored twice in the first half, capitalizing on mistakes by United’s Casemiro. Despite being substituted at halftime by Erik ten Hag, United’s situation didn’t improve, as Mohamed Salah added Liverpool’s third goal just 11 minutes into the second half.
Trent Alexander-Arnold thought he had opened the scoring when his shot was initially ruled a goal by goal-line technology, prompting him to mimic Steven Gerrard’s iconic camera-kissing celebration.
However, VAR disallowed the goal for offside, much to the dismay of the 70,000 United fans.
While Alexander-Arnold had the last laugh on the field, he continued to taunt United fans after the match.
Video footage shows him responding to jeers from the fans with a ‘three’ gesture, which provoked Salah to approach and advise him to stop, likely to prevent the situation from escalating.
Liverpool supporters enjoyed seeing their player get one over on their rivals. One fan commented on X: “And people think he [Alexander-Arnold] wants to go. He’s having the time of his life out there!”
Alexander-Arnold is in the final year of his contract at Anfield and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
