Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate expressed his disappointment over missing the Player of the Match award against Wolverhampton Wanderers, particularly upon discovering that Gary Neville made the decision.
Liverpool triumphed 2-1 over the struggling Wolves, putting them at the top of the Premier League. Konate scored first with a header, and Mohamed Salah later regained the lead with a penalty after Rayan Ait-Nouri’s equalizer.
During Sky Sports’ commentary, Neville chose Ryan Gravenberch as the Player of the Match for his impressive midfield display.
After the match, both Konate and Gravenberch were interviewed by Sky, where Konate was humorously asked to present the award to Gravenberch.
“Sky Sports, who decides the man of the match?” Konate joked. “How is this possible? Alright, it’s my brother, I have to give it to him. Milan, I score. Today, I score… I didn’t deserve it?”
“Seriously, what happened? You need to talk to them. I don’t know who makes the decision.”
Upon learning that Neville was responsible, Konate made a face and said, “Thank you, Gary,” while Gravenberch responded playfully.
