Liverpool forward Luis Diaz has indicated that Mohamed Salah’s potential exit would be a major setback for the team.
Salah, who signed his current contract in 2022, is now in the final year of his deal. Although there have been persistent rumors about a possible summer move, Salah remains at Anfield, with contract extension talks seeming to have stalled.
Despite this uncertainty, Salah has made a strong start to the season, scoring in all three of Liverpool’s matches and helping them secure second place in the Premier League, just behind Manchester City on goal difference.
Diaz, who scored twice in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United with Salah’s assists, told Telemundo (via the Daily Mail) about the impact of a potential departure for Salah:
“It would be tough for both us and Liverpool. Losing him would be a significant blow. He has a year left on his contract, and it’s not an easy choice.
He always gives his best. Losing such a crucial player would be very challenging, but it’s his decision, and we respect that. I hope he stays.”
After the match at Old Trafford, Salah hinted that it could have been his final appearance at the stadium, telling Sky Sports (via the Daily Mail), “I had a feeling before the game that this might be my last time at Old Trafford.
No one has discussed a new contract with me. It’s not in my control; it’s up to the club. We’ll see what happens.”
He further stated, “It’s my final year here, and I want to enjoy it without being too focused on the contract. For now, I’m focusing on football and seeing what the future holds.”
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has been a key player for the team. Over his seven years at Anfield, he has made 352 appearances, scored 214 goals, and provided 92 assists, winning every major trophy with the club except the UEFA Europa League.
Last season, Salah netted 25 goals and contributed 14 assists in 44 matches across all competitions, his final season under manager Jürgen Klopp.
His recent goal at Old Trafford also matched Alan Shearer’s record for the most goals scored by a player in away games against a single Premier League team, with 10 goals against Leeds United.
