Arne Slot has issued an ultimatum to Darwin Nunez at Liverpool following the striker’s slow start to the 2024/25 season. Since joining as a club-record £85 million signing two years ago, Nunez has struggled to meet expectations.
Despite hopes that Slot could unlock his potential, Nunez has yet to start a game this season and has only appeared as a substitute under the new manager.
When asked what Nunez needs to do to return to the starting lineup for Saturday’s match against Bournemouth, Slot stated that he must work hard like his teammates to earn his opportunities.
Slot mentioned Nunez’s recent performance against AC Milan, where he contributed to the team’s attacking efforts but didn’t make a significant impact.
He noted that while Nunez is fit and improving, he faces competition from Diogo Jota, who has performed well.
In the Milan match, Nunez had limited chances, managing only one shot on target in his 20-minute appearance, while Gakpo made a notable impact with an assist.
Slot emphasized that players must give their best regardless of their playing time, highlighting the importance of both individual quality and teamwork.
The upcoming match against Bournemouth is seen as an opportunity for Liverpool to bounce back from their previous defeat to Nottingham Forest, set to kick off at 3 PM on Saturday.
