Liverpool may be rekindling their interest in Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio after scouting him for several years, according to recent reports. Although Liverpool has been linked with the Portuguese international before, these connections have resurfaced.
Arne Slot, who missed out on signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad this summer, is now keen to secure a new center-back and is focused on not missing another opportunity. While there is no official confirmation of Liverpool’s interest in Inacio, speculation around his potential move continues to grow.
The 22-year-old defender matches the club’s desire for a young center-back and brings significant experience, having established himself as a key player for Sporting and frequently representing Portugal internationally.

Goncalo Inacio, with 11 caps and two goals for Portugal, has made over 170 appearances for Sporting Lisbon since his debut in 2020, after advancing through their academy. He recently helped Sporting win the domestic title, adding to his tally of four trophies in Portugal.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing Inacio, having tracked him for several years. Last season, Inacio played 32 league games as Sporting secured the Primeira Liga title, finishing 10 points ahead of Benfica. He also contributed three goals in nine Europa League matches and appeared twice for Portugal at Euro 2024.
Primarily a center-back, Inacio can also play as a right-back or in midfield, thanks to his strong long-range passing and ability to initiate offensive plays. His 6ft 1in frame, along with his acceleration, agility, and pace, makes him a strong fit for Liverpool’s defense. His versatility would offer manager Arne Slot various options in case of injuries or suspensions.
If Liverpool decides to pursue Inacio, they will need to meet his release clause, valued around $65 million (£51 million/€60 million). Manchester United has also shown interest, though their recent acquisition of Yoro might affect their pursuit of Inacio.
