Liverpool have decided to allow teenage winger Ben Doak to leave the club on loan this summer after evaluating his pre-season performances.
Leicester City, Southampton, and Brentford are now all pursuing the 18-year-old, who is considered one of the most promising talents from Liverpool’s youth system in recent years.
While a standard loan deal is the most likely outcome for Doak, Liverpool is also considering options that could include a permanent transfer.
Doak, who joined Liverpool from Celtic in 2022 for £600,000, was limited to five senior appearances last season due to injuries. Pre-season has been a crucial chance for him to make an impression on new manager Arne Slot. He featured for 25 minutes in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United, which wrapped up their US tour.
Liverpool have decided to let Ben Doak seek regular game time elsewhere for the 2024/25 season, with Brentford, Southampton, and Leicester all offering him Premier League opportunities.
Reflecting on his injury issues from last season, Doak commented, “Who knows if I would have played? I’d like to think so, but I can’t dwell on last season. I need to focus on this season and aim to make as many appearances as possible.”
Doak, who was a favorite of former manager Jürgen Klopp, missed out on Scotland’s Euro 2024 squad due to injury. Regarding his new manager, Arne Slot, Doak noted, “He’s quite similar to Klopp in terms of ideas, but the style of play is somewhat different.”
