Liverpool have reportedly declined Southampton’s initial offer for attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho.
The bid, valued at £15 million, was turned down by Liverpool, but they might consider a sale if a higher offer is made. Carvalho, who has been on two loan spells since joining Anfield, seeks a regular starting role, which Southampton manager Russell Martin could provide.
Liverpool seems reluctant to agree to another loan and may prefer a permanent transfer, despite Carvalho’s strong pre-season performances, including a goal against Manchester United.
Southampton, having secured promotion to the Premier League and earning £140 million from the play-off final, are in a strong financial position.
They have already made 12 signings this summer, including Adam Lallana and Ben Brereton Diaz, and are now targeting Carvalho as their next acquisition.
Despite their initial £15 million bid being rejected, Southampton likely have the means to make a better offer.
Given Liverpool’s willingness to consider selling the 21-year-old, fans can anticipate at least one more bid before the future of the former Fulham star is decided.
