Mohamed Salah has revealed the meaning behind his new goal celebration, which had left fans confused. Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain as he is in the final year of his contract, with no significant progress on a new deal.
Currently, the 32-year-old may leave Anfield on a free transfer next summer. Last summer, Liverpool turned down a substantial £150 million offer from Saudi Pro League team Al Ittihad for Salah.
When asked about his future this week, Salah told Sky Sports News,
“Before the season started, I decided to focus on enjoying this year without worrying about the contract. I’m not thinking about the future or next year; I just want to enjoy the last year of my contract and see what happens.”
“The most important thing is to take one day at a time and be grateful to be here,” Salah said.
Keeping focus despite the speculation, Salah has had a strong start to the 2024-25 Premier League season, scoring in both of Liverpool’s 2-0 victories over Ipswich Town and Brentford.
After scoring both goals, Salah showcased a new archery-themed celebration, which left fans curious. He explained to Men in Blazers, “I was inspired by UFC, specifically Israel Adesanya’s celebration after his second fight with Pereira.
I’m a UFC fan, and I liked that celebration, so I decided to use it. Some people also associate it with ancient Egyptian pharaohs, who used similar gestures in temple drawings and pyramids.” Adesanya used the archery gesture after defeating Pereira on April 8th, 2023.
