Mohamed Salah has given Liverpool fans a reassuring update regarding his future, which remains under scrutiny with the arrival of new head coach Arne Slot. The Dutch coach faces a challenging task in succeeding Jurgen Klopp and is already considering decisions about key players, including Salah.
Salah, along with defensive stars Trent Alexander-Arnold and captain Virgil Van Dijk, will see their contracts end after the 2024/25 season. With significant interest from Saudi Arabia in Salah over recent transfer windows, there is concern among fans that he might leave in a big transfer this summer.
After a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad for Salah was turned down last summer, the club is prioritizing new contracts for all three players. However, it is unlikely that Salah will be sold this summer, regardless of whether he agrees to a new deal.
The 32-year-old played a key role in Liverpool’s preseason opener against Real Betis, assisting Dominic Szoboszlai for the only goal in a 1-0 victory, marking a successful start to Slot’s tenure. Post-match, former Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian, who joined Betis this summer, mentioned that Salah and his former teammates have been praising Slot’s methods.
In an interview with The Athletic, Adrian stated: “I speak almost daily with many of the squad members, including Kostas Tsimikas and Mo Salah. They’ve told me they appreciate the new coach’s approach, which aligns with Jurgen’s philosophy: being intense, direct, playing with pace, pressing high, and showing bravery. Liverpool’s squad is well-suited to this style, so the new coach should adapt well. I wish him the best.”
On Instagram, Salah has likely reassured fans regarding his future. He posted a photo of himself smiling and giving a thumbs-up next to Wataru Endo, which is expected to ease any concerns about his potential departure.
It appears that concerns about Salah’s potential unhappiness following Klopp’s departure have diminished and might dissipate entirely if Liverpool performs well when the domestic season starts next month with their first match away at newly-promoted Ipswich Town.
Before that, Liverpool will play title rivals Arsenal next Thursday in a preseason game, followed by matches against Manchester United on Sunday, August 4, and Sevilla on Sunday, August 11.
