Arne Slot has a deep passion for pop music. From the Beatles to Bruce Springsteen, the new Liverpool manager is such a fan of good music that he attended a rock festival just days before leading Feyenoord into the Europa Conference League Final.
Slot frequently attends concerts, never missing the Amstel Live event in Rotterdam, even with Jose Mourinho’s Roma coming up. It’s only a matter of time before he visits the renowned Cavern Club, where the Beatles first captivated their audience.
Those close to him say that, aside from music, Slot values his family, friends, and football above all else. Thus, when he arrived in Merseyside to take over from Jurgen Klopp earlier this summer, he did so alone, with his wife Mirjam, daughter Isa, and son Joep staying in the Netherlands. Slot is focused on adapting Klopp’s high-energy style to his own approach of controlling game tempo and rhythm.
Joep, who plays amateur football in Zwolle, will likely reunite with Slot when he manages Liverpool’s first Premier League match at Anfield. Despite not being very expressive, Slot will surely feel proud when the Kop sings ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ before kick-off.
Liverpool’s anthem has always been a favorite of Slot’s. A local singer performed it for him when he led Feyenoord to their 16th Eredivisie title in 2023, and Slot sang it himself at his farewell party in May.
In Slot’s small hometown of Bergentheim, most residents have become Liverpool fans since his appointment as manager. Slot inherited his coaching skills from his father, Arend, who managed local non-league teams while Slot was growing up.
Arend Slot recounted: “When I was coaching, my wife needed some quiet on Saturdays, so I took Arne along. He was always keen to sit in the dressing room and watch the pre-match talks. Even at a young age, he was eager to be involved and would sit next to me in the dugout.”
Mum Fennie expressed: “I am immensely proud of Arne, and also of my other children Edwin, Jakko, and Gerlinde, but Arne’s achievements in football are truly special. The whole village is excited about every match he coaches. On the day Feyenoord won the league, despite being busy, Arne made sure to send me a lovely message for Mother’s Day.”
