Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has sent a message to Trent Alexander-Arnold after the defender emulated his famous Old Trafford celebration.
Alexander-Arnold, who thought he had scored within the first six minutes, ran towards the camera and kissed the lens in a tribute to past Liverpool victories over Manchester United.
However, the goal was ruled out by VAR due to Mohamed Salah’s offside interference during the build-up to Luis Diaz’s assist.
Despite this, Liverpool secured a convincing 3-0 win over Manchester United. Diaz played a key role, scoring twice in the first half with a header and a well-taken shot, while Salah added a third goal after the break following another United mistake.
Similar to the Brentford match, Alexander-Arnold was substituted in the later stages of the game, but his reaction was more reserved this time.
At the final whistle, he acknowledged the traveling Liverpool supporters, blowing three kisses to them and highlighting the three-goal margin of victory.
Despite the VAR intervention, Alexander-Arnold stayed upbeat, sharing a kiss emoji with his 11.6 million followers, which Gerrard reciprocated.
As he left the pitch, he was all smiles and left a message for the cameraman: “Next time, we’re coming back.”
Meanwhile, Dutch head coach Arne Slot saw his team extend their winning streak on Sunday, placing them second in the Premier League.
They are one of only two teams with a perfect record and the only team yet to concede a goal in their first three league matches.
Slot commented, “Each game has been significant. The first was my debut as Liverpool manager, the second was my first home game, and this was my first major win.
The team has shown great effort in recent weeks, dominating possession and playing with a three-man midfield.
“There’s still a lot to prove with the Champions League upcoming. Two years ago, we played in the Champions League at Liverpool, and it wasn’t our best season.”
