Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared his thoughts on social media after Liverpool’s solid 2-0 win over Brentford. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah secured the victory in Arne Slot’s first competitive match as Liverpool’s manager at Anfield.
Even though the team won, Alexander-Arnold seemed unhappy about being substituted before the match concluded. Slot spoke with him after he was taken off with 18 minutes remaining, and the England player still appeared dissatisfied afterward.
In his post-match comments, Slot downplayed any tension with Liverpool’s vice-captain, whose contract expires next summer. He explained his decision to substitute Alexander-Arnold, saying, “I understand every player wants to play the full 90 minutes, but the players on the bench might not have been thrilled with my choice.
“Trent returned from the national team after playing a lot at the start of the European Championships, then had a break before coming back. This is only his third game, and we need to manage him carefully for the entire season, not just the first few matches. Fortunately, I have a solid backup in Conor (Bradley), so we’re taking care of Trent. He played well.”
Alexander-Arnold celebrated Liverpool’s win on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the fans with a caption: “First win at home. Fans were incredible as always.” He posted pictures of himself leaving the field, applauding the crowd, and taking a corner.
He also had an early rest in Liverpool’s season opener against Ipswich Town when Slot substituted Conor Bradley in for him in the 77th minute.
Liverpool is now preparing for their next match against Manchester United at Old Trafford next Sunday, just before the September international break.
